Story about “SUDAR” or legendary restaurant

We’ll tell you wonderful and romantic story about “SUDAR” with great pleasure.

Russian Restaurant “SUDAR” has received its name non-random at all. In case of legendary name, - therefore it smells like legend… In fact, according this legend, at the beginning of XIX century, - shortly before memorable war of 1812, exactly where restaurant contemporary place is located, and some tavern opened its hospitable doors for the first time. Tavern was in at the death of many thenadays historical occurrences, which among «Council in Fili» with generalissimo Kutuzov at the head of it took place; and Napoleons menacing armada hosts trespassed on “Gold-domed”, and than its disgracefully escape. Tavern always met friends with bread-and-salt welcome and joy, but never pleased and favored Holy Russia enemies.

It was very long ago, when, Moscow conflagrations were put out and grim years of 1812 war heroically were finished, that tavern blossomed out with renewed force. Russian notorious gorgeous nobleman graph Orlov, who was famous generation offspring loved to visit this tavern. He regarded with favour its good cuisine. Once he dined with shchi (cabbage soup), and decided to come back the next day. Ordered the same dish and became delighted with it. Invited tavern-keeper and asked to confess: “What has changed in dish’s receipt from past day?” So, Orlov received unexpected answer: “Nothing…shchi (cabbage soup) brewed on round the clock…”

Since then this dish was prepared like this, and has gotten name – “Daily shchi”. And till present day restaurant owners held that antique receipt: shchi are served in pot under fancy puff and cause joy to our dear guests.

Let’s recturn to story about graph Orlov… He was extremely polite and well-mannered sir, with what had always amazed tavern-keeper and many other people. He even called cleaners and footmen as “Sir” (on Russian language “SUDAR”), wishing in such way to educate sense of beauty in every estate, he attempted to engraft good manners by personal example. (This undoubtedly was reflected on modern steward’s school formation.) Hearsay informs that just that appeal gave name for this famous restaurant.

Once by request of one of tavern governors firstly was painted portrait of that graph, and afterwards was created glorious sculpture composition – Elegant Sir, seated with beautiful Madam in chariot. And near was found real trotter from Orel town, named in honor of its owner– «Graph», harnessed with chariot (in commemoration of our hero and his famous family name). Nowadays this romantic composition delights everybody on the second floor of our cozy restaurant. And cocked horse right leg is decorated with real bronze horseshoe, - for good luck and happiness for Russian Restaurant «SUDAR» dear guests.

Many of different alive song-birds live in restaurant and charm guest ear by wonderful singing. Some of birds imitate melodies of sounding in restaurant music.

Appearance of these birds is not by chance… Long ago, approximately in XIX century, one gentleman in top hat had often visited this tavern; there was hided nightingale in that top hat. On occasion this fact was revealed and clarified that gentleman in such way tried to teach sweet singing from local “Chorister – extremely talented nightingale” his pet. When this funny deception was nicely exposed (as thenadays nightingale teaching cost very expensive), gentleman in top hat decided to present his bird to tavern owner in acknowledgement of cordial welcome and delicious meal. Besides that, feeling his guilt, in a definite time gentleman gathered collection of song-birds for tavern, those which charmed guests and owners with wonderful singing and appearance. Later there appeared foreign unprecedented birds.

Up to now this tradition is alive in Russian Restaurant «SUDAR». And till present day, together with the best Moscow porter Davidich, unique large parrot Jaco named “Sudar” is meeting dear and welcomed visitors. This clever and ironical fauna representative keeps in mind not only hussars with their charming ladies, it keeps in mind each of guests and can laugh from the heart together with you.

In commemoration of that nobleman, in whose top hat was hided nightingale, appeared favorable custom –to bring counting in black leather top hats at the end of meal.
